Being an Overseas Filipino Worker means that you can provide food on the table and give a more comfortable life for your family. You can help with the finances and possibly buy properties and save money for the future. However, it is hard to be away from the family too. You cannot spend the holidays with them, nor special days like birthdays or anniversaries.

But nothing hurts when your family members are in danger and you are not in the country.

Victim of Rape with Homicide

A family of an Overseas Filipino Worker became victims of a horrendous crime in Cavite last December 17.

According to a report from ABS-CBN News, the 22-year-old suspect, Mark Harold Mercado, went to the house of a seaman in Mendez, Cavite with unclear intentions.

The 42-year-old wife was stabbed to death while their 18-year-old daughter is currently in the hospital for medication after receiving 10 counts of stabbing. People believe that the mother was raped because she’s not wearing anything when the police saw her in her room.

The police believe that robbery is not the main intention of Mercado since there were no stolen things from the house.

The Arrest

The Mendez Police was able to arrest Mercado last December 18. According to the suspect, he did not intend to do the crime but was able to commit it because of drunkenness.

Mercado was in grief because of what he did. Other than being a neighbor of the victims, he is also a relative of the victim’s husband.
