OFW never gives up on her wild and rebellious daughter

Mary Anne Olarte, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who worked abroad to give a better life to her children and to send them to school went home when she knew that her daughter named Hetty, 16 years old, stopped going to school, got pregnant and gave birth, and started loitering, not going home, and was staying with her boyfriend’s house who is a minor like her.

Olarte believed she did all she could ever do to protect her daughter.  She lamented she could not count how many times she took her home from her boyfriend’s house but she would make alibis to be able to go out and would not go back home after. Hetty refused her mother’s calls.

Olarte went to Raffy Tulfo to asked for his assistance to be able to talk to Hetty to lure her to go home to her mother and to her three-month old baby whom she left with her mother so she could wander and do what she likes.

Her boyfriend’s mother urged Olarte to please take her home because according to her, Hetty often goes home very late and was always seen being with other minors till late night.

Tulfo called Hetty and asked her why she does not want to go home to her baby and her mother. To Tulfo’s surprise, she said that she does not want to live with her mother anymore.  Olarte explained the reason why Hetty does not want her.  It is because she prevents her from loitering and keeps her grounded to be able to take care of her own baby.

Tulfo asked the DSWD’s assistance to take Hetty home.  Hetty was escorted to the Social Services Development Department (SSDD) Shelter in Quezon City and was admitted to stay for counselling and behavioral therapy for two months.

Ma. Kristianne Arsenal, the psychologist of Community Outreach Division, SSDD, Quezon City, performed series of tests and evaluation on Hetty and found that she is using ecstasy and marijuana.  She is recommended for admission at the National Mental Health to undergo drug dependency evaluation.

Olarte expresses her gratitude to Tulfo for his assistance and sincerely hopes that her daughter will get better after the treatment.
