This is good news to returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and new applicants for employment abroad. More than 3,000 jobs in the Philippines and abroad were offered for all qualified applicants on the day of “Araw ng Pasasalamat para sa mga OFW Jobs Fair” that was conducted at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. Those who are interested can still apply at Philippine Overseas Employment Administration’s (POEA) website or they can go to any POEA office near them.
GMA News reported on Friday, July 13 that New Zealand, Japan, Oman, and other European countries are offering jobs to Filipinos. Interested applicants may apply directly through the accredited recruitment agencies that participated in the job fair.
POEA said that many skilled workers like construction workers are wanted in New Zealand while Japan is in need of caregivers and factory workers. The Ministry of Health in Oman, on the other hand, is in need of medical staff like doctors and nurses.
POEA emphasized that the job fair was primarily conducted for returning OFWs and their family members who are currently looking for employment in the Philippines and abroad. However, the job opportunities are also open to all interested and qualified applicants. POEA said in the interview that they are still hiring and interested applicants may go to any POEA branch and inquire. It is suggested that they should only apply at accredited recruitment agencies which they can check with POEA office.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) said in an interview that the Philippines, too, is in dire need of nurses and they admitted that there is a shortage of nurses in many hospitals in the country because of nurses going abroad to work for better salaries and benefits.
Relatively, one PNA official suggested that the government should also increase the salary of nurses to 30,000 pesos a month so that Filipino nurses will be convinced to work in the country instead of applying for employment abroad. – LMI
