The Philippines is known for its people who are hospitable, with strong family ties and religions, generous and helpful, with work ethics, and honesty and integrity, to name a few positive traits. We believe that we have the best values in the world, just like any country does.
We practice all these beautiful traits not only in our family and community but also in other countries we go. Filipino’s excellent performance in their jobs and their positive values are being written and the world reads about them. And just recently, another Filipino working as a barista in Dubai displayed honesty and integrity.
Mae Anne Olmidillo, 27 years old, a barista, was recognized by Dubai Police for her honesty in returning a whopping sum of cash worth Dh195,000 or USD53,000. That is around Php2.7 million! A customer left a bag in the coffee shop where she works.

Bur Dubai Police Station Acting Director Colonel Rashid Mohammed Saleh Al Shehhi acknowledged Olmidillo’s integrity and good values for returning the bag with cash and checks. The colonel said that their effort to reach her to thank her is part of their initiative “We Reach You to Thank You.”
Dubai Police has a habit of giving surprises and recognition to community members for their honesty, good conduct, or even for following traffic rules.

Olmidillo also extended her gratitude to the Dubai Police General HQ for recognizing her efforts. She said that the recognition given to her make her happy and proud not only of herself but of the whole Filipino nation she represents.
“Hindi po ako nagdalawang isip na ibalik yung pera sa nagma-may-ari. Hindi po akin yun at alam kong may return si God para sa akin. Maraming salamat po,” said Olmidillo.
The bag also contained two signed cheques – one worth Dh 500,000 and another worth Dh 6,250, a chequebook, private paper works, and other important documents. That makes a total of DH 701,250 cash and checks that the bag contains.
