A Filipino-American was apprehended by authorities in Los Angeles (LA), California after his plans of bombing Los Angeles got leaked in a private online chat room recently in March this year.
The suspect was identified as Mark Steven Domingo, 26 years old, from Reseda, California. He is now held captive and under the custody of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – Joint Terrorism Task Force.
According to the investigations done by LA police, Domingo used to work in the US Army and was deployed in Afghanistan.
Domingo admitted to LA Department of Justice about his plans of bombing the rally of white nationalist group in Long Beach, California using improvised explosive device.
The suspect added that he was also planning to attack and wreck as many places as he can in California. In his written affidavit, Domingo admitted that he bought sharp materials like long nails to equip the IED he is going to invent in order to create expansive destruction and casualties.
According to Reuters, US Attorney Nick Hanna stressed, “This investigation successfully disrupted a very real threat posed by a trained combat soldier who repeatedly stated he wanted to cause the maximum number of casualties.”
Recalling how Domingo’s plans were revealed, US authorities said that they received a report containing information about Domingo’s plans of bombing California. The authorities confirmed that the information got leaked from a private online chat room.
Domingo’s support to Islamic militants and his willingness to take side with the Moslems and avenge the alleged injustice and abuses done to them through the bombings he planned were all revealed in his messages in the chat room.
“Often we are asked what keeps us up at night. This is a case that keeps us up at night,” Ryan Young, special FBI’s Joint Terrorism special agent expressed.
