Overseas Filipino Workers do not have a luxurious and spoiled life abroad. Most of them are sacrificing their comforts and happiness once they go to another country to work, just to put food on the table and send their children or siblings to school.

Contrary to what others think that they are just buying things that they want and enjoying the good life that their salary has to offer, there are also those who are suffering in the hands of their abusive employers. There are a lot of news shared online about OFWs pleading to go back to their families in the home country after suffering physical, mental, and sexual abuse.

Trapped OFW in Syria

This is the case for an OFW named Neth Tanedo Magdasoc. Neth was working as a domestic helper in Syria before the civil war started. Unfortunately, she, along with other OFWs, are trapped in the country and are asking to be rescued.

Takot na takot na po ako. Gusto ko na po makauwi sa pamilya ko.

The place where Neth and the other OFWs are hiding is like a ghost town. Due to the continuous bombing in the area, all of the windows and doors are always closed.

No Help From the Embassy

The OFWs in Syria already tried asking help from the Embassy so they can go back to their families in the country. However, according to Neth, the Embassy is not doing anything.

Yung embahada po dito parang hindi kami inaasikaso.

Due to the airstrike and constant bombing in the area, they do not have enough access to food. The Pinay domestic helper already lost a lot of weight after being trapped in the city.
