It’s already been a month since the news about the slaying of an OFW’s family in Cavite broke. The merciless killing in the victims’ house happened last December 8. Upon hearing the news, the Overseas Filipino Worker, Marlon Gamos, immediately went back to the country to seek justice.

The Suspect

Gamos, during an interview with ABS-CBN, said that it is possible that his family knows the killer. Although it is hard to get leads regarding the case because there are very limited CCTVs in the area, Gamos is not losing hope that justice will prevail.

Last December 28, the suspect in the killing of Ruby Gamos and Shaniah Nicole Gamos, surrendered to the Eastern Samar Police. The suspect is identified as Ruel Cabatingan, 36 years old, and also an Overseas Filipino Worker.

The suspect confessed that he killed the mother and the child last December 8.

The Motive

Authorities thought at first that the primary motive in the killing is robbery since a few pieces of jewelry, television, gadgets, and the family’s car are missing. However, there were no signs of forced entry, prompting relatives to suspect that the person behind the murder is familiar to the victims.

Cabatingan admitted to the crime but did not say what pushed him to commit the murder.

The Surprising Twist

Social media played a huge role in capturing the suspect. He is using a Facebook account under “Ilyttaafe Rubyel,” an apparent mix of the names Ruby and Ruel.

The Facebook account contained several photos of Gamos and Cabatingan together, some of which were taken in an apartment in Barangay Alapan, Imus. Cavite, just a few kilometers away from the Gamoses’ house. There were also some photos of the suspect and the child which were taken in a playroom.

Marlon also identified the suspect as a high school batchmate. He also explained that Cabatingan was an ex-boyfriend of Ruby before their marriage.
