One of the reasons why foreign employees and companies hire Filipinos is because of our enthusiasm and adaptiveness. Filipinos are known not only as fast workers — we are very efficient too. That is why there are a lot of Overseas Filipino Workers abroad, especially in the Middle East.
Unfortunately, not all people are happy with the services that Filipinos are providing. The recently signed agreement between Kuwait and the Philippines have new laws to protect those working abroad.
After the new laws imposed by the government, which includes providing a day off per week for Filipino domestic workers as well as not surrendering their travel documents, a social media star voiced out her concerns and distaste.
Sondos Alqattan, a Kuwaiti social media personality and make-up artist, who has more than 2.3 million followers on Instagram, said in her video:
The new laws that have been passed are like a pathetic film. For her [domestic worker] to take a day off every week, that’s four days a month. Those are the days that she’ll be out. And we don’t know what she’ll be doing on those days, with her passport on her.
How can you have a ‘servant’ at home who keeps their own passport with them?
The social media star believes that Filipino domestic helpers should not deserve a day-off.
The comments left by Sondos Alqattan have provoked an angry backlash from social media users. She was heavily critiqued because of her inhumane comments.
As of writing, Sondos Alqattan is yet to issue a public response. A lot of Filipinos are urging the Philippines Overseas Employment Administration to blacklist the social media star. Many believe that she should be included in the list of undesirable employers.

What do you think about this? Will issuing a public apology help pacify the situation?
