Many of our hardworking Overseas Filipino Workers in Kuwait are now reunited with their families in the Philippines. This is amid the employment ban imposed by the Department of Labor and Employment and as pushed by our President, Rodrigo Duterte. After news of OFWs, especially household helpers or domestic workers, being abused and maltreated by their employers, the government did not have any choice but to put a stop on sending workers to the Gulf State.

Although a lot of our OFWs are now on their way to the Philippines to be with their loved ones, not all of them will have a happy reunion. Some of them are unlucky to bring nothing but themselves to their family. One of them is Aida Gullermo.

The Incident

In a Youtube video uploaded by Pinoy Viral, another OFW is introducing the poor domestic helper. Gullermo is already on her way back to her family in Santiago, Isabela, but the problem is, she doesn’t have any money to give to her loved ones once she’s back.

After working for six months, she was locked out by her employer for two weeks and upon returning her to her agency, she was forced by her agency to pay.

Help From Other OFWs

Out of pity and because they know how it feels, a lot of OFWs who are also on their way back to the country gave a lot of help to the poor domestic helper. They gave her money that she can use for her family back in the home country. Some also gave her chocolates for pasalubong to her children.

She can’t help but cry to thank the kind-hearted Filipinos.

The issue with her agency is still being resolved until now. We are hoping that the government and public service show Raffy Tulfo in Action, will keep an eye on this case.
