Every Christmas, New Year or the start of classes, it is common for most Overseas Filipino Worker in sending back Balikbayan Boxes for their families. These Balikbayan Boxes contains varieties of imported goods, from soaps to lotions, chocolates, shoes, and other souvenirs for their families and relatives.
Every year, there are more than 5 million OFWs all over the world who are sending packages to their families in the Philippines. However, with the new rules implemented by the Bureau of Customs which affected the sending of packages in the Philippines, the number of Balikbayan Boxes sent to the country decreased.
But that is not the only problem encountered by a family in Metro Manila. Instead of feeling happy after receiving the package from their family in other countries, they were surprised to receive it: after two years.
Received After Two Years
In a Facebook post, the receiver of the package took a video of themselves while opening the huge Balikbayan Box. However, instead of feeling happy, they were shocked that everything inside was already garbage, if not rotten.
According to them, the package was sent last 2016 but they only received it this year. The shoes were all soaked and rotten while the contents of the toiletries almost disappeared already. Most chocolates, amounting to P8,000, were expired. The whole package smells awful due to the number of expired and rotten items inside.
The family cannot hide their frustration on the courier since they did not send the package on time, as agreed before. They are calling them out and said that they will ask help from public service host Raffy Tulfo to get the compensation that they deserve.Watch the video here:
