Overseas Filipino Workers are enduring the loneliness and the hardships to earn money and provide financial support to their families in the Philippines. If you will talk to them and ask the reason why they choose to live a life away from their families, a lot of them will say that they left the country to give a better life and future for their loved ones.
After cases of abused OFWs in Saudi Arabia surfaced, more and more OFWs, particularly domestic helpers, are reporting the maltreatment of their employers. Nowadays, we can hear a lot of news about Filipino workers abroad who are abused and harassed by their employers.
One of them is a female OFW working in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Sold to Another Employer
Recently, the Facebook page OFW CCTV has shared the story of a Pinay worker in Riyadh who, along with two other OFWs, were sold by their former employer to another Arab.
The OFW was identified as Jennifer de Leon and her agency is. De Leon recorded herself seeking help from Raffy Tulfo and the government to save them from their employers.
According to her, the new employer is locking them in the house. They were also prohibited from using cell phones and she just took her chances to ask help. They can only eat once a day too.
She was already working for five months for the said employer when they told her that she will be taken back to her agency. But instead of going to their agency’s office, she was surprised to be taken to a new house where she will be working as a household helper.
Nakapadlock po kami dito. Pati shampoo binibili po namin. Isang beses lang daw po makakain dito. Tulungan nya po kami. Gusto na po namin umuwi. Hindi po namin alam ang address dito.
