OFW Wanted: Instead of Sending the Money to Her Colleague’s Family, Domestic Helper Decided to Keep It For Herself

One of the challenges that you will face as an Overseas Filipino Worker is homesickness. Since you are thousands of miles away from your family, one of the best things you can do is to treat yourself or get to know other Filipinos in the area.

However, as what others say, it is not easy to trust people. Being friends with other Filipinos can be easy, but trusting them 100 percent can be a different story.

This is a lesson learned by a domestic helper who trusted her money to another OFW. Thinking that her hard-earned money will be received by her family in the country, she asked her former colleague to hand carry it to her.

The Story

According to Calumba Padon Domingo, a domestic helper named Lirian Flores Banton fooled another domestic helper in Saudi Arabia. Before she went back to the country, she guaranteed her colleague named Arlene that she will send it via remittance, along with the other souvenirs meant for the family.

She was staying in Mandaluyong before and decided to move to Cavite. She also promised beforehand that she will come back to work again in Saudi Arabia but until now, she cannot be contacted.

Trusted Her 100%

Arlene entrusted the money, amounting to P21,000, to her colleague since whenever they are asking their employer to send it to their families back in the Philippines, it takes the employer several days to send it. Plus, since her colleague is a Filipino too, she didn’t have a single idea that she will run with her hard-earned money.

According to the video, since Lirian cannot be contacted anymore, Arlene will look for her and even ask Raffy Tulfo’s help to trace the OFW.

It is saddening that instead of helping others, some of our kababayans resort to lying and cheating to get money. Hopefully, Arlene will be able to locate Lirian and get her money back.
