OFW singer in Dubai joins ABS CBN’s Idol Philippines

Since its launching, the Idol Philippines has been showcasing Filipinos with singing talents.  The show is becoming popular not only in the Philippines but in other parts of the world as well especially in countries where there are Filipinos.

Wikipedia writes that Idol Philippines, which formally known by its title as the Search for the Idol Philippines, is a Philippine reality singing television competition on ABS-CBN to find new solo singing talents. It is part of the Idol franchise created by British entertainment executive Simon Fuller. This is the third adaptation of the Idol franchise in the Philippines, after Philippine Idol in 2006 by ABC Development Corporation and Pinoy Idol in 2008 by GMA Network.

The show is hosted by singer-actor Billy Crawford; while singer-actress Regine Velasquez, comedian and television presenter Vice Ganda, singer-actor James Reid, and singer-songwriter Moira Dela Torre constitute the panel of judges.

Many aspiring Filipino talents are joining the show hoping that they will win and start their singing career.  Filipinos abroad are also qualified to join the contest.

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Dubai, Shan dela Vega, 27 years old, went home to the Philippines to compete in the show. She is a professional singer and had been singing in Dubai for five years.

It was evident in dela Vega’s voice and performance that she can really sing very well as attested by all the judges, however, she did not show in her performance the quality they are looking for in an Idol.

For the audience and for those who believe in her capacity, she did her best in giving her rendition of Mariah Carey’s “I Still Believe” and it was a great performance as singing a Mariah Carey’s song with all the whistles is not an easy task.  Not all singers can sing a Mariah’s.

Unfortunately, she did not get the judges’ votes for her to move on in the competition.  Vice Ganda, however, gave his yes to dela Vega’s performance. .

Dela Vega, being a professional singer, believes in her capacity and still thanked the judges for the opportunity to sing on TV and on in one of the most prestigious singing competitions, Idol Philippines. – LMI
