The Daily Mail says that most families still believe the traditional roles of mothers and fathers. According to a major study, fathers should be the breadwinners while mothers bring up the children.
It found that despite the flood of mothers into work, most families still hold on to the stereotype that a father’s job is to earn the money and protect the family.
But how about if this role has long been forgotten by a father and his children are the ones giving money to him as he asks them? And what will you do if you will learn that your own father is scamming you all this time?
This is the concern of Rizel Anico who went to Raffy Tulfo for help to talk to her father Rizal Anico who is an overstaying overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Kuwait.
According to Rizel, she last saw her father when she was five years old and she got to be with him for two months only. After that, he went to Kuwait to work for 22 years and he never went home to the Philippines since then.
Her father, Rizal Anico, told them that he is now staying illegally in Kuwait and homeless. He told his family that he is sleeping in the streets and now very sickly and losing his vision.
Rizel recalled as she related the story to Tulfo that her sisters who are working in Canada have sent money to their father in Kuwait because he asked for it. He said he would use the money to settle his financial obligation as he was a guarantor to his friend who had a car loan and would use the money to pay for unpaid amortizations of the car or else he will be put to jail.
Then he asked again for money to work on his papers and buy a ticket to be able to go home to the Philippines. His family, who are very willing to have him back home sent money to him but he did not go home and would use countless alibis for not being able to process his papers.
Rizel said they have sent him more or less than 250,000 pesos already.
In a telephone interview with Raffy Tulfo, Rizal was playing deaf and sick. He was complaining that he could not hear Tulfo nor Rizel over the phone. He said instead that he is already working on his papers and will be home next week.
Tulfo did not believe him and he said that he will work on his deportation instead. – LMI
