OFW in Kuwait dies of extreme physical abuse of employer

The cases of maltreatment, physical abuse, rape, and killing among the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) working in the Middle East are increasing.  There is a news about these cases almost every day.

Just lately, another case was reported by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) about an OFW in Kuwait who died due to severe physical injuries.

The victim was identified as Constancia Lago Dayag, 47 years old who is from Agadanan, Isabela. She died in the hands of her employer who was identified as Bader Ibrahim Mohammad Hussain who allegedly physically and sexually assaulted her before she died. Her remains arrived in Manila on Thursday, May 23.

“Initial reports reaching my office indicate that Ms. Dayag was brought to Al Sabah Hospital the other night but was declared dead on arrival,” said Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

“Her body bore various contusions and hematoma,” Bello added.  According to the reports, a cucumber was also seen and removed from the victim’s reproductive organ.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Dayag’s employer is facing a felony murder charge filed by the Kuwaiti General Prosecutor’s Office and supported by the Philippine Embassy.

“Aside from apparent violation of the agreement on the protection of OFWs between our government and Kuwait, there appears to have been a breach of the employment contract by the foreign employer,” Bello said.

The DFA reiterated that it has asked the Kuwati government to immediately release the result of the investigations of Dayag’s death together with the official forensic report from the Criminal Evidence Department of Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior.

The National Bureau of Investigation will also help in the investigation by conducting an independent autopsy to determine Dayag’s cause of death.

Dayag’s remains will also be brought to the University of the Philippines– Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) Forensic Morgue for an examination.

The DFA has extended financial assistance of P100,000 to Dayag’s family. – LMI
