There are many struggles and challenges that overseas Filipino workers (OFW) have to undergo in order to earn a living to support themselves and their families back home. Many stories have been written and read about the ordeals and difficulties of OFWs and yet these issues persist and they are not protected from their atrocious employers.
Another OFW in Dammam, Saudi Arabia was reported to have been suffering with her employers. Her friend has informed the concerned officials and agencies about her physically abused friend by sending some of her pictures showing her bruises. The OFW is still unnamed until she is rescued from her employers.
The photos of the victim showing bruises and physical abuse were shown at “State of the Nation with Jessica Soho” on Monday, April 29.
The victim said that she had been working for two years with her employer and within these two years, she had been physically abused severely by her female employer.
“‘Yung amo kong babae, minsan, sisipain niya ako. Sasampalin niya ako, tapos babatukan, hihilahin niya ‘yung hijab ko,” she said in a telephone interview with GMA News.
Aside from hurting her physically, the OFW victim also reported that she is not being fed properly, her communication with her family is limited and she is being forced to work more than what is lawful.
The recruitment agency in the Philippines that deployed her to Saudi stressed that they are negotiating with their counterpart in Dammam to help her.
Hans Leo Cacdac, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) administrator reassures that they will help her and will do everything to repatriate her in the soonest possible time.
“Meron po tayong isasagawa o maaaring isagawang pagsagip at pagsasaayos ng pagpapauwi. We will also gather information about who her Philippine recruiter is. We will of course contact our Labor Attache and Welfare Officer on the ground,” Cacdac said.
