When you are working abroad, what are the tools you use to get in touch with your family? Some Overseas Filipino Workers use Skype while others use Facebook Messenger. There are also others who use the traditional letters and phone calls with their families.

New Way to View Homes

Google is making things more possible for our OFWs. Google’s Street View, which features panoramic views of streets from various angles, was launched in the country last September. Filipinos abroad can now use this service to view familiar locations back to their home.

This annoys people to view the sight of their homes and post screengrabs onto their Facebook accounts.

Now a senior citizen, Zafra, another OFW, is teaching fellow senior citizens to utilize technology by giving instructions on how to navigate the website by showing a link to an elementary school in Bulacan in one of his Facebook groups.

How to Access It

1. Go to www.google.com/maps or maps.google.com and type in the address you desire to view.

2. Locate the yellow Pegman icon at the bottom right section of the map.

3. Drag the Pegman icon to the desired location. Note that only areas with blue lines are covered by the Street View.

4. Adjust the location view by clicking on view. To move to the left, click or tap on the left panel. To move to the right, click or tap on the right panel.

Everything is Possible for Filipinos Abroad

The country is now the 69th country with Google Street View. It was launched to boost the tourism in the country.

Senator and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is among those who recommended using the application. He mentioned that this technology allows him to showcase his province because of the panoramic view.

Google Street View is a technology featured in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides the panoramic view from positions along many streets in the world. Google is now working closely with the Department of Tourism to help promote the Philippine tourist spots.
