For a lot of Overseas Filipino Workers, working in another country allows them to get a thicker paycheck while further seeking employment opportunities. The sacrifices that OFWs make just to give their families a better life earned them the title of bagong bayani or modern-day heroes.
There are many Filipino workers choosing to work abroad to send their children to school or to let them live a more comfortable life. They are sacrificing their happiness and comfort while living away from their families.
Unfortunately, we are seeing and hearing a lot of stories about OFWs, especially domestic helpers, who are suffering from their employers. There are a lot of stories of our modern-day heroes suffering from maltreatment and abuse.
Needs Immediate Rescue
One of these stories is a Facebook post by Jennifer D Survivor. According to the post, she was looking for the agency of Grace Trabucon Cerna, since she needs immediate rescue. She also revealed that she was locked in a room last March 18 and was only given food last night.
Grace used to work as a domestic helper for a family in Saudi Arabia. However, one day, her madame (female employer) told her to stop working due to jealousy. The problem arises when she was refused to receive salary since it’s no work and no pay.
People are fearing that the domestic helper will be sold to another family since it’s a common practice in Saudi Arabia. Once an employer is no longer happy with the services provided by the household helper, they will find another employer who will buy out her services. There are a lot of reported cases when an employer sells the domestic helper and the helper will suffer from abuse from her new employer.
Watch the video here:Currently, the domestic helper is still locked in the said room and there is no news regarding what her current situation is.
