The country receives more than $20 billion worth of Overseas Filipino Workers remittances every year. A lot of homes in the country were built using overseas money. Many OFWs were able to send their children to school.
For many Filipinos, landing a job abroad is an ultimate dream. A lot of us associate working abroad with success and prosperity.
Even if there are many successful Filipino workers who were able to reach their goals and give their families a better life, some of them were unfortunate. There are many Filipino workers, especially those working as domestic helpers, who are suffering at the hands of their employers.
Another domestic helper who is asking for immediate help is Rochel, who is working as a domestic helper in Saudi Arabia.

Rochel said that she was called a thief several times. At first, she was accused of stealing their 13 and 100 Riyals on separate occasions. Her employer’s sibling put a smartphone in her room and after placing the valuable in her room, they accused her of stealing the item.
Rochel revealed that she wants to commit suicide already because of her case. According to her, if she will not be allowed to go back to the country, she will take her own life.

We hope that the government and the embassy can do something on Rochel’s situation. We hope that nothing worse will happen to our kababayan.
