Seeing your loved ones who have been away for many years is like a dream come true. Gone are the days when you spent several hours talking via Skype or Facebook Messenger or counting the days when you will physically see them again.
However, not all Overseas Filipino Workers are having a great time working in another country.
As we all know, many of our Filipino migrant workers are also suffering in other countries from the abuse and maltreatment of their employers. Instead of coming home happily to their families in the Philippines, their employers are holding on their contracts and locking them in the house to avoid asking help.
Or worse, some of them are being abused sexually too.
Sexually Abused Several Times
An OFW named Remafel Duquiatan Ariola is pleading to be given a chance to come back to her family now. According to a concerned fellow domestic helper named Thet Nawalub, Remafel has been working as a domestic helper in Saudi Arabia when she was moved to her original owner to a new one.
Her first employer used to abuse her physically and threaten her that she won’t be able to go home to her family anymore. She thought that her first employer is the worse employer that she will ever have, but the second one is a lot worse.
Upon moving to the house of her new employer, she already experienced that something is wrong. While washing the dishes, her male employer would often hug her from the back. There was even one time when he hugged her and pushed her face into the ground while kissing her on her back. Remafel also narrated that while feeding the children, her employer arrived and put her hands on his private organ.
Almost Got Raped
But the worse part is when she almost got raped. The male employer pretended to look for his jacket. When Remafel went to the room to look for it, he locked the door, hugged her, and took her to the bed. He was about to abuse her sexually when she pleaded and threatened him that she will go back to the Philippines.
Thet said that Remafel already tried asking help from the embassy but she did not receive any response from them.
