Agency Sells an OFW to Another Agency; New Company Hurts Them Physically and Forces to Sell Them to New Employers

The Philippine government is encouraging OFW that instead of going to the Middle East, they can seek opportunities in other countries in Asia like Singapore or Hong Kong. According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, the government is still working on convincing Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait to return to the Philippines and be employed somewhere overseas.

Bello also revealed that the country may be forced to restrict Filipinos is getting jobs, particularly employment as domestic helpers of household helpers in the Middle East countries due to the abuse happening to our kababayans. The government is currently contemplating the possibility of having a deployment ban of Filipino household helpers and other workers in Saudi Arabia.

Another OFW Crying For Help

Unfortunately, another domestic helper in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is crying for help not only due to the abuse she is suffering from her current employer but because her agency sold her to another one even without her consent.

According to Mary Jane Abizo Hilario, she left her previous employer because her previous employer harassed her and tried to sexually abuse her. She was also locked in a room for two days. When she went back to her agency and told them of what happened, the said agency sold her to another agency.

She is not aware of what the name of the new agency is. Plus, whenever they are taken to another employer and they refuse, the personnel in the agency hurts them physically.

Mary Jane added that her agency in the Philippines, Sphinx Group Manpower Provider Incorporated promised her and her family that she will return to the Philippines. Unfortunately, everything is just false hope and until now, she is still in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The OFW also added that she is not alone: there are also other domestic helpers who are suffering from the same fate as her.
